It's crazy that (without their parents' permission) minors can't drink, smoke, get a tatoo, get their ears pierced, open a bank account or go to federal prison and yet they can have an abortion without even telling their parents. If parents have to give permission for a minor procedure such as ear piercing, they should definitely have to at least be notified if their child has an abortion.

Heather: I must agree with you completely. Schools can't even give an aspirin to a student without parental permission! How can there ever be justification for not notifying a parent for a very dangerous, and LONG damaging operation... The psychological damage done to women is never given the press it deserves...I am convinced that pro-choice means making the right decisions BEFORE a pregnancy can happen! Interesting thought: If a minor is so fearful to tell a parent about an abortion, just maybe, maybe, that would give them the incentive to make the correct choice in the first place!!!!!!
This is terrible, I agree with Heather completely - these are minors! It certainly will be interesting to see what they will do with this case if Alito is confirmed - will they redo the case? How will the public react?

An AP wire story reprints excerpts of yesterday's oral arguments. Here's a link to one paper in which the story has appeared:
